Monthly Concert Series
The local school district's music program is constantly facing the possibility of lot of cuts to classes and budget, and there are concerns that retiring music teachers will not all be replaced. Recently, 6 music classes at the high school were cut (luckily due to public outrage, 5 of the 6 have tentatively been put back into the schedule).
Nate (owner of Vivace Music) knows the importance of music education in a child's development. There are numerous studies that show a correlation between learning an instrument and higher test scores, increased self confidence, improved memory, etc. Since music has always been an important part of his life and with the fact that his own children will be attending Selinsgrove SD, Nate wanted to come up with ways to help the music program.
Vivace hosts a monthly concert series on the second Sunday of each month. Local businesses help sponsor the concerts to help defray the costs of paying the musicians, advertising, food, etc. There is a reception with food and drinks from 6:00 - 7:00 PM and the concert is from 7:00 - 8:00 PM. Tickets are $18.00 (covers food/drinks/admission). All net proceeds from the concert series are donated to the music program at Selinsgrove (divided equally amongst all the schools' individual music departments). The 2015 - 2016 season ended with our May Concert and raised a net total of $2,171.80.

SAIS Band Instrument Fundraiser
Apart from a general lack of funding toward the music program in the school district, the intermediate school specifically cannot afford to purchase school-owned instruments for the band. (School-owned instruments are typically loaned out to students from families who are unable to afford to purchase or rent an instrument). They are also sometimes loaned out to students temporarily who are interested in trying a different instrument.
Nate started out on a school-owned instrument himself and is incredibly grateful the school he attended had the funding to provide one.
"I had a really rough childhood with a very abusive stepdad. Since my school had an instrument to lend to me, I was able to join orchestra. I joined as many music classes/ensembles as I could since the more ensembles I was in, the more early-morning and after-school practices I had, which meant less time at home."
Nate credits music with getting him through his childhood, so when he heard students were being turned away due to a lack of funding, he knew he had to do something to help.
He started an instrument fundraiser (accepting monetary donations and donations of instruments). Any donated instruments will be gone over by his repair tech before being turned over to the school. He is offering to sell SAIS instruments up to $10,000 at wholesale cost (no profit to him). As of April 2016, close to $1,200.00 has been raised as well as 3 donated instruments. Snyder County Libraries
Nate and his wife are both avid readers. When the planning committee from Snyder County Libraries contacted Vivace asking if we'd participate in the Evening of Wine and Art, Nate couldn't say no! At the time, the store was just getting started, so Nate donated 4 piano lessons to the auction. He attended the event to see what it was like and had quite a bit of fun and was happy to see how much it raised for the libraries.
Nate asked the planning committee to keep him updated on future events, and they told him about a mini-golf event that would be set up inside the library in Selinsgrove. Thinking that would be another fun event, Nate signed up to be on the planning committee.
While attending the first meeting and listening to how everything would be set up, what sponsorships they'd like to have, and how much they'd hope to raise. It sounded like such a great event (and a great opportunity for advertising our move into our new location, as the event was around the same time), that Nate decided to have Vivace be the main sponsor for the event. "Vivace Music's Putting Fore Pages" was held on March 4th and 5th 2016 and raised a net total of $13,000.00 for the libraries!
